In the snow, on the ice or in a cozy hut

Heiligenblut in winter

Winter is a great time in Heiligenblut. Where the highest peaks are lined up one after the other, winters are still rough, snowy and unforgiving, just as you would imagine. When masses of natural snow fall from the sky, the Grossglockner Heiligenblut ski area opens its doors and offers the best slopes, steep freeride variants and the best natural snow. But you will also find many other highlights away from the slopes.

Großglockner Heiligenblut ski area

55 km of perfectly groomed pistes and12 modern lifts offer you the full variety of winter sports. The ski bus takes you directly from the Landgasthof Sonnblick to the valley station of the cable car and deep into the winter paradise of the ski area. As you carve down the slopes, you will be watched by the 3,798-metre-high Großglockner, which is always present and monitors the scenery.

Freeride & Powderdreams

It's not just "on" the groomed slopes that things get busy here in winter. "Off" the slopes shows what kind of skier you are. The terrain is divided into 6 freeride sectors, all of which are part of the open ski area and where a necessary level of skill and knowledge is crucial. A little closer to the ski area you will find our four ski routes, which also take you off the groomed slopes into the valley.

Up the mountains under your own steam

Which classic ski tour will it be today? The Hohe Sonnblick, the Hocharn or perhaps the legendary Glockner circumnavigation? The region around Heiligenblut am Großglockner is a paradise for ski tourers. To make sure you are safe on tour, ask Klaus Brandstätter, he knows the ski touring region like the back of his soft-shell jacket and gives good tips for tours, safety and conditions.

With cross-country skis or ice axe

We are sporty in Heiligenblut am Großglockner. That's why we can't really sit still and we groom cross-country ski trails, prepare our ski slopes or even build an ice climbing tower in the village center, where you can get a taste of this breathtaking sport. If, like us, you like to be very active, the Sonnblick cross-country ski trail leads right past the Landgasthof Sonnblick, strap on your skis, get in and start skating.

Winter vacation with the whole family

It doesn't always have to be top-class sport. During your winter vacation, you can also let the freeriders find their own lines, the ice climbers let you hang out on the ice and have a great day with your kids. There's plenty of fun to be had on the toboggan runs in the region, as well as ice skating, ice stock tournaments or a leisurely ride in a horse-drawn sleigh.
